"We were- We are" in the Redmond Downtown park, WA

 I've been working on the new installation since May. City of Redmond commissioned me to create a temporary installation for the Art Walk 2026. 

That is when three patio chairs became a shared space designed to encourage conversation, reflection, and connection. Painted scenes represent significant chapters in Redmond’s history, while short stories on the seats complement the imagery, inviting viewers to look closer and discover connections between the past and present. Green lettering, inspired by the computer code displayed on early PCs, symbolizes the arrival of technology companies as one of the pivotal moments in the community’s development. Historical photographs, documents, and local knowledge shared by the Redmond Historical Society inspired the artwork, allowing me to trace Redmond’s stories and see how they continue to shape the community today.


The first chair honors Native American heritage through imagery of salmon, a canoe, and cedar trees, recognizing the region’s original communities and their ongoing relationship with the natural environment and social life. My goal is to highlight the presence and lasting impact of the Snoqualmie Tribe in the region today.


The second chair represents industrial progress, depicting logging and railroad development, which were the primary drivers of the region’s economy. These industries supported the growth of local businesses, including hotels such as the one operated by Emma McRedmond White. I reconstructed the appearance of the original building using photographs from the websites of Redmond Historical Society and the City of Redmond. As logging declined, Redmond gradually shifted toward agriculture, while the legacy of these early enterprises continues to shape the community.



The third chair depicts the transformation of Redmond from the period following the Great Depression to the present day, featuring a dynamic Derby Days scene as a symbol of community spirit, while silhouettes of musicians, along with elements of the Redmond Technology Light Rail Station, highlight the role of technological innovation and cultural diversity in shaping the city’s contemporary identity.

A treasured moments for proud family

 I was invited backstage to photograph this young dancer during KKSD's performance of The Little Prince. It gave me the opportunity to observe the emotions, movement, and atmosphere firsthand, allowing me to create a portrait that reflected more than a likeness. Because this performance was deeply meaningful to my client's family, it was important for me to preserve not only the dancer's appearance but also the memories and emotions connected to this moment.

   Just imagine: you are watching the dance, listening to the music. At some point, your brain begins drawing pictures in your head… that’s how it works for me. Suddenly, you find yourself far away from the performance’s storyline, yet the atmosphere itself keeps you captivated. I am not sure it makes sense for someone else. Still, I want to share this to illustrate what art is capable of and how I create.

  When life brings shifting tides and challenges, it is friendship that becomes a source of strength, grounding us and helping us endure even the most difficult moments.
